Safety information
Injectables are medical treatments. This is general information about their risks and the warning signs that need urgent attention.
Botulinum toxin risks
Common and temporary: small bruises, mild headache for a day or two, and tenderness at the injection points.
Less common: a heavy or asymmetric brow, or a drooping eyelid, usually from product spreading beyond the intended muscle. These resolve as the effect wears off, but that can take weeks.
Rare but serious: botulinum toxin carries an FDA boxed warning about effects spreading beyond the injection site.
Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome.
Hyaluronic acid risks
Common and temporary: swelling, tenderness and bruising, typically peaking around day two and settling over about two weeks.
Less common: lumps or asymmetry, and filler migrating beyond where it was placed. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.
Rare but serious: vascular occlusion, where filler compromises a blood vessel. This is a same-day emergency.
When to seek medical attention
- After filler: severe or worsening pain, skin turning white, dusky or mottled, or any change in vision.
- After neurotoxin: difficulty swallowing or breathing, double vision, or muscle weakness spreading beyond the treated area.
- Either: signs of infection — spreading redness, heat, fever or pus.
If symptoms are severe, seek emergency medical care rather than waiting for a call back. You can reach us during opening hours on (214) 282-6044.
