How It Works

What Crow’s Feet Softening actually does

Crow’s Feet Softening uses a botulinum toxin type A product — a purified protein that temporarily reduces the signal from nerve to muscle. Placed into the orbicularis oculi muscle, it softens fan-shaped lines at the outer corner of each eye by letting that muscle relax.

This matters for expectations: neurotoxin works on dynamic lines — the ones that appear when you move. Lines that are visible when your face is completely still are static lines, etched into the skin over time. Neurotoxin softens those far less, and sometimes not at all.

More neurotoxin can be added later; it cannot be removed once placed, which is why conservative starting doses are widely preferred.

What To Expect

The usual timeline

  1. Treatment

Generally 10–15 minutes. A very fine needle is used, and most people describe it as a brief pinch.

  2. Straight after

There is typically no downtime. General guidance is to stay upright for a few hours, skip heavy exercise until the next day, and avoid rubbing the area.

  3. Days 3–5

The first change usually becomes visible.

  4. Day 14

Neurotoxin generally reaches its peak effect at around two weeks.

  5. Months 3–4

Movement gradually returns. Results generally last 3–4 months.

Aftercare

General aftercare guidance

  • Stay upright for around four hours after treatment.
  • Do not rub, massage or apply pressure to the treated area for 24 hours.
  • Skip strenuous exercise, saunas and hot yoga for 24 hours.
  • Avoid facials, microneedling or laser over the area for two weeks.
  • Seek medical attention for drooping of the eyelid or brow, double vision, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or weakness spreading beyond the treated area.

This is general information. Always follow the specific aftercare instructions you are given at your appointment.

Candidacy

Who this is not for

Neurotoxin is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, if you have an active infection at the injection site, or if you are allergic to any component of the product. Tell us about aminoglycoside antibiotics and any blood thinners — including aspirin, fish oil and high-dose vitamin E, which increase bruising.

Suitability is assessed individually — discuss your history and medications with your provider before treatment.

Questions

Common questions about Crow’s Feet Softening

When will it look its best?

Around 10–14 days. Judging the result before then is the most common reason people think their treatment did not work.

Will I look frozen?

The trade-off is real and worth naming: less movement means smoother skin but less expression. Conservative dosing is the usual way to keep expression, and more can be added later — neurotoxin cannot be reversed once placed.

Will I age faster if I stop?

No. Your muscles resume normal movement and lines return to the trajectory they were already on. You do not end up worse than if you had never started — you simply lose the softening you were getting.

Will my skin sag if I stop?

No. The treated muscle regains its former strength; it does not become weaker than baseline after normal use.

Can it fix deep lines that are there when I am not moving?

Only partially. Static lines — the ones visible when your face is completely still — usually need something other than neurotoxin, or a combination approach over time.

How often should I have it done?

Results generally last 3–4 months, and most people time repeat treatment around that. Returning sooner does not generally improve the result.
