Preparation

General advice before injectables

  • Alcohol in the 24 hours beforehand increases bruising.
  • Blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil, high-dose vitamin E and ginkgo also increase bruising. Never stop prescribed medication without speaking to the doctor who prescribed it.
  • Bring a list of your medications and supplements — aminoglycoside antibiotics matter particularly with neurotoxin.
  • Mention a history of cold sores before any lip treatment; treatment can trigger an outbreak.
  • Injectables are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Swelling and bruising are possible, so avoid booking close to a wedding, holiday or important photographs.

Questions worth asking any provider

  • Who is injecting me, and what is their licence?
  • What product is being used, and is it FDA-approved for this?
  • How many units or syringes, and what is the total cost?
  • What are the risks specific to this area?
  • What should I do, and who should I contact, if something worries me afterwards?

These are reasonable questions anywhere, including here.
