How It Works

What Lip Filler — Naturally Injected actually does

Lip filler adds volume rather than relaxing muscle. We use hyaluronic acid filler — a gel made from a sugar molecule your body already produces — placed in the lip body and border to build shape, definition or hydration.

Hyaluronic acid is used because it is reversible. If you dislike the result, or if filler settles unevenly, it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. That reversibility is the single most important safety feature of this class of filler, and it is why we do not use permanent fillers in lips.

An over-filled or migrated look is commonly the result of too much product in one sitting, or topping up before the previous syringe has fully settled.

What To Expect

The usual timeline

  1. Numbing

Topical numbing cream is commonly applied first. Most hyaluronic acid fillers also contain lidocaine, so comfort typically improves as treatment progresses.

  2. Placement

Treatment generally takes 30–45 minutes with numbing.

  3. The first 72 hours

Swelling is normal and typically peaks around day two. Bruising is possible. Ice and keeping your head elevated help.

  4. Settling

Most swelling resolves within about two weeks, which is when the result is usually judged.

Aftercare

General aftercare guidance

  • Keep your head elevated and use ice intermittently for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid heavy exercise, saunas, hot yoga and alcohol for 24–48 hours.
  • Avoid pressure, suction and puckering for about 48 hours — including straws.
  • Do not book lip filler within two weeks of a wedding, holiday or photographs.
  • Seek medical attention promptly for severe or worsening pain, blanching (white or dusky skin), or skin that looks mottled. These are uncommon but urgent.

This is general information. Always follow the specific aftercare instructions you are given at your appointment.

Candidacy

Who this is not for

Lip filler suits people who want more volume, a defined border or a corrected asymmetry. It is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have an active cold sore or skin infection in the area, or if you have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine. If you have a history of cold sores, tell us — treatment can trigger an outbreak and this is manageable if we know in advance.

Suitability is assessed individually — discuss your history and medications with your provider before treatment.

Questions

Common questions about Lip Filler — Naturally Injected

How painful is lip filler, honestly?

Most people put it around a three to five out of ten. Topical numbing goes on first and the filler itself contains lidocaine, so it becomes more comfortable as it goes.

What does the recovery look like day by day?

Day one: swollen and firm, possibly uneven. Day two to three: usually the worst of the swelling — this is normal and not the result. Day four to seven: swelling settles noticeably. Week two: this is your actual result.

Is half a syringe worth it?

For subtle hydration or a small correction, yes — half a syringe is a common starting point, particularly for a first treatment.

What is filler migration and how do I avoid it?

Migration is filler moving beyond where it was placed, most visibly as a shelf above the lip border. Commonly cited risk factors are over-filling, placement that is too superficial at the border, and topping up before previous filler has settled.

Will my lips sag when the filler wears off?

There is no good evidence that normal, conservative hyaluronic acid filler leaves lips saggy once it resorbs. Repeated large volumes over many years are a different question — which is another argument for restraint.

How long does lip filler last?

Generally 6–12 months. Lips move constantly, so filler there metabolises faster than in less mobile areas. Individual results vary.
